Carla Connor (Alison King) realised that she could only truly trust herself after discovering lies from Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) and Peter Barlow’s (Chris Gascoyne) inability to be honest in Monday’s (August 14) Coronation Street.
Peter was recently revealed as the person who stole a watch that belonged to Rufus Donohue. He had plans to sell it, but concern grew when Rufus’ wife, Lou, arrived recently and said the police were looking into the missing watch and the tie pin, which was found near Rufus when he died.
The tie pin was Stephen’s and had fallen off when he drowned and killed Rufus a few months ago. As he absorbed the information from Lou, he knew that the tie pin needed destroying.

In Monday’s episode of the ITV soap, Stephen stole Lou’s pass to her hotel room, ready to get the evidence that would ultimately prove he was with Rufus during his final moments.
Beforehand, Stephen bumped into Peter and managed to get out of him that he stole Rufus’ watch.
In the hotel room, Stephen got his hands on the tie pin but just as he left, Lou arrived.

Stephen decided to tell Lou about Peter’s thieving, which distracted her from the fact he was outside her hotel room.
As a result, Lou pulled out of the deal she was planning with Underworld. She made her opinion towards Peter and Carla perfectly clear and left, with the couple furious at Stephen for throwing them under the bus.

Despite Carla basically agreeing with Peter’s comments about Stephen having a ‘hidden agenda’, she said that because Lou has walked away from Underworld, she needs Stephen for some stability until things are back on track.
Meanwhile, Stephen was on the cobbles throwing the tie pin down the drain.
Stephen has saved himself again but with Carla and Peter’s suspicions growing, time is most certainly running out for him.
