When Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) returned to Coronation Street recently, everyone assumed that her journalism career was going brilliantly.
Bethany had been working in London after leaving to do an internship in 2020, but reappeared over the festive season and immediately rekindled her relationship with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).
She’s been a bit secretive since she came back, though. Lucy Fallon told us that Bethany is hiding something about what caused her to come back to Weatherfield.
‘She’s basically been forced to come back,’ she said. ‘There is something that has happened in London that has kind of forced her to come back, but she’s not revealing that straight away. She’s being a bit secretive about why she has come back.’

In upcoming episodes Bethany’s behaviour starts getting a little bit suspicious. Daniel finds her engrossed in writing an article, but when he asks what it’s about she gives him a vague reply and basically shuts him down.
After Daniel has gone she calls her publisher about the article, and is dismayed when they say they’re not interested in it.

It looks like this isn’t a one-off rejection, either, as when Daniel tells Bethany it’s her turn to treat him to tea she says she’s too busy and has a deadline to meet.
But then we see her checking her bank balance – which is already in overdraft. It seems that Bethany’s career is not going as well as she’d led people to believe.

She decides to approach the Weatherfield gazette to see if she can get any work from them. The editor, Suzi, turns her down – but suggests that Chit-Chat Magazine might be looking for someone.
