Audrey makes a decision (Picture: ITV)
Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) attempts to look towards the future in upcoming Coronation Street episodes after the death of her son Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).
Stephen died at the end of Super Soap Week when Peter (Chris Gascoyne) hit him with his car. While most of the Weatherfield residents focused on the many crimes Stephen committed, all Audrey could think about was how she lost her beloved son as a result of Peter’s actions.
It seems Audrey is ready to move forward as she’ll soon tell David (Jack P Shepherd) and Max (Paddy Bever) that it’s time she returns to work.
Later in the week, she breaks the news to David and Maria (Samia Longchambon) that she’s selling the barbers so she can afford to buy back her house and she’ll be returning to work in the salon, which means one of them will have to go.

David and Maria try to talk Audrey round, worried about her health as well as their jobs, but she holds her own and orders them out of the salon, locking the door just as they leave.
As David and Maria take up their roles of joint salon managers, they end up bickering over who will keep Vin Diesel the weasel (a stuffed animal ornament before you ask).
Audrey advises them to pack in the squabbling or she’ll be forced to pick one of them to be in charge, but will they listen?
And can David and Maria really work well together as joint managers?

‘It’s like when you watch a movie and it’s the end of the film and that’s that and the protagonist walks off into the sunset as the credits roll’, Iain MacLeod told us recently, discussing what’s ahead now Stephen has gone.
‘But obviously soap doesn’t end. It goes on and you need to have the sequel to the movie in your heads before you’ve even started telling the story of the first movie.

‘So, yes, there are wide-ranging consequences to Stephen’s exit, both emotionally and practically and criminally going forward. You need to know what season two of the tv series is before you’ve written series one, or you need to know what the sequel is.

‘So, in the grand tradition of sequels, I hope what you’re about to see is Godfather part two which is one of the best sequels ever. And not Ace Ventura two, which isn’t. I’m confident we’ve nailed this. The consequences inevitably of crimes of this scale are going to be huge, so it’s going to be an exciting few months on Coronation Street.’
