It’s been a terrible year for Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) in Coronation Street following her rape ordeal at the hands of Aaron Sandford (James Craven) back in March.

As a result of what happened she’s struggled with her mental health and found dealing with her uni work hard to cope with.

‘Amy’s still very distracted by what happened. Even though she’s trying to put as much effort into her uni work as possible, things keep getting in her way,’ Elle Mulvaney told us.

In an attempt to take back some control of her life Amy has begun to turn her attention to supporting other women who’ve been through similar experiences. Through this she decides to go on an anti-spiking march that’s taking place.

Although Amy wasn’t spiked when she was raped, she was previously spiked by accident by Max Turner (Paddy Bever). She’s keen to do anything that will prevent more women being targeted.

Amy heads off to the march along with Summer (Harriet Bibby) and Evelyn (Maureen Lipman), but things soon take a turn when they’re taunted by bully Mason (Luca Toolan) and his friends. Amy goes to attack Mason with a placard and when a police officer stops her she retaliates by spray-painting a police car and gets arrested for criminal damage.

This is only the start of a dramatic week for her, as her next action puts her in serious danger.

After advising Dylan (Liam McCheyne) to stand up to Mason, she realises that she needs to take her own advice and heads off on her own, apparently intent on a mission.

She goes to a nightclub on her own, and it’s not long before she spots a man spiking a woman’s drink. She rushes over and knocks the drink out of her hand, leading her to safety. She explains what she saw and says that she was raped and doesn’t want the woman to suffer the same thing happening to her. The woman thanks her and leaves.
