As Peter Barlow’s (Chris Gascoyne) exit from Coronation Street draws near, he is determined to spend his final day with his true love Carla Connor (Alison King).
Peter has been struggling with his mental health ever since he killed Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).
After the police found no reason to charge him, Peter has faced the temptation to turn to drink as a way of numbing his emotions.
Chris, who has played Peter for 23 years, was pictured filming the scenes in question in October and by the looks of things, viewers are going to need to stock up on tissues as it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster.
The episode airing on Boxing Day will focus on Carla and Peter’s time together in Weatherfield. As they enjoy their last supper, the couple look back at everything they’ve been through and accept they are better off apart.
Tuesday’s episode sees a hurt Carla struggling to deal with Peter’s upcoming departure, which leads to a passionate embrace.

During the episode, Peter exchanges his emotional farewells, promises Ken Barlow (William Roache) that he’ll keep in touch, and then departs Coronation Street.
Attention then turns to Carla as her friends and family wonder how she’ll cope without Peter, but she isn’t alone for too long.
After actor Chris confirmed his soap exit, he told Metro.co.uk that Peter Barlow ‘is very close to his heart,’ with a Coronation Street spokesperson confirming that the door is ‘left open.’
There is no set return date for Chris, however it is being viewed as an extended break.
Over the years, the actor has been central to huge plots, including recurring alcoholism, struggling to parent Simon Barlow, an on/off feud with dad Ken and a turbulent but passionate relationship with Carla.
