Ed makes a huge mistake (Picture: ITV)
Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) gets himself in massive trouble in Coronation Street over the festive season when his gambling results in a ruined Christmas for his family. But worse is to follow in the new year as strikes a deal with none other than evil Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths).
Before Christmas Ed, struggling under mounting debts, pawned the family’s Christmas presents and pretended they’d been stolen in a burglary.
It’s not long before his family discover the truth, and to say they’re angry and disappointed is an understatement.
Michael (Ryan Russell) can’t believe that Ed would actually pawn Glory (Eleanor Beckles)’s Wendy house and wants him out of the house immediately.

It seems that they still don’t know the extent of the mess Ed is in, either, as he confides in Todd (Gareth Pierce) that his family hate him but they still don’t know the worst.
In the following days Ed tells Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) that his priority is clearing his debts and if it means losing the builders’ yard that’s what he’ll have to do. He also promises to attend his gambling support groups regularly as he tries to turn his life around.

Desperate for money, he’s pleased when Damon Hay offers him a job renovating a bar – and it could possibly mean that he doesn’t have to sell the builders’ yard. It’s a hugely tempting offer for Ed.
Of course Dee-Dee knows all about Damon and what he’s like and she warns Ed that he should steer well clear.

Dee-Dee is perfectly right, of course. Damon is a very dangerous man, as viewers will see when he takes Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) hostage and holds him at gunpoint.
‘Adam finds himself in this nightmarish situation all at the hands of Damon, who’s unexpectedly come back,’ Corrie boss Iain MacLeod recently told Metro.co.uk. ‘And in our minds, has been somewhere away from Coronation Street plotting his revenge.’

Damon previously had an affair with Sarah (Tina O’Brien) which left her marriage to Adam in tatters and Adam took shocking action against Damon – who is now back to even the score.
Clearly this is not a man that someone like Ed should be getting involved with on any level.
A desperate Ed is about to make a huge mistake.
