Coronation Street star Colson Smith has opened up about his ‘bizarre’ skin condition in an episode of the Sofa Cinema Club podcast, and co-host Jack P Shepherd thinks he knows what’s caused it.
Colson, who plays PC Craig Tinker on the ITV soap, revealed that he suffers with chronic idiopathic urticaria, a condition which makes his ‘lips swell’ and gives him a ‘rash all over’.
The actor revealed that the condition flared up prior to an appearance on This Morning, for ‘the first time in ages’.
‘It started in January,’ Colson explained. ‘So you won’t have seen me in short sleeves since January.
‘It only annoys me when it’s on my face. It’s a bit disheartening sometimes on your face.’
Co-host and Nick Tilsley actor Ben Price wondered if he was allergic to fruit or sugar, but Colson quickly pointed out that ‘anything and everything’ can cause him to have a flare up, but revealed that the condition should only last three months.
Despite this, Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, thinks he has worked out the root cause of Colson’s condition.

‘Both of which you’re completely denying,’ Ben joked, with Colson confirming, ‘that is my only diet!’

He continued, saying, ‘I did have Nandos yesterday Jack,’ suggesting that Jack may not be too far off.
Colson is currently in the middle of a storyline which will see Craig propose to Faye Windass (Ellie Leach), unaware that she has been going on secret dates with ex Jackson (Joseph Evans).

Alongside starring in Corrie, Colson, Ben and Jack are preparing for their second live Sofa Cinema Club show, which will take place on May 11 at the Lowry Theatre in Salford.
