Following in the footsteps of its supermarket rivals, Co-op is now introducing discounts for loyal customers.

The supermarket is the latest store to unveil a loyalty scheme, which offers lower prices to those signed up.

In a similar way to Tesco Clubcard and Sainsbury’s Nectar Prices, the retailer will dish out lower prices to Co-op Membership customers.

Some of the deals up for grabs include the supermarket’s freezer offer – which features five items, including fish fingers, fish fillets, chips, peas and ice cream – which is priced at £5 for members and £6 for those without a loyalty card.

Likewise, Co-op’s lunchtime meal deal is available for £3.50 instead of £4.

The scheme, which is launching today, currently includes 15 items at new member prices – with different products to be rotated every three weeks.

It’s also worth pointing out that the Co-op Membership is free to sign up to and shoppers get 2p back from every £1 spent on own-brand products as a member – as well as personalised deals in the app.

The supermarket has also pledged to reduce the cost of more than 60 key lines in stores to help its members and customers during the cost of living crisis.

Kenyatte Nelson, the chief membership and customer officer at Co-op, said: ‘Our message is simple, Co-op members save more.

‘The new push for member prices ensures that we’re rewarding the loyalty of shoppers with the most competitive prices on the best offers we have in our stores, alongside weekly personalised offers, exclusive games to win additional discounts and prizes, plus the benefit of money back via on own brand purchases, all while supporting local causes with funds raised via members’ spending in store’
