Christian Eriksen back in Denmark squad
Footballer Christian Denmark has been named in Demark’s team for the first time since he suffered cardiac arrest during a game at Euro 2020 last summer.
After his cardiac arrest, Eriksen was released by Inter Milan due to rules surrounding players fitted with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) – rules for Series A say players with an ICD cannot play in the league. But the Premier League has different rules.
Eriksen signed with Premier League club Brentford in January, he will now play Denmark friendlies in the Netherlands on 26 March and at home against Serbia three days later.
He will join his teammates for training in Spain prior to the matches.
He joined Brentford on a six-month deal. The former Tottenham player was given a standing ovation from fans and players on both sides during his return to professional football.
He said afterwards: “If you take away the result, I’m one happy man. To go through what I’ve been through, being back is a wonderful feeling.”
Denmark qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by finishing top of their group with 27 points from 10 games – four points clear of runners-up Scotland.
