Chris Whitty to lead health chiefs in Downing Street press conference TODAY
The Daily Express says the four chief medical officers of the UK have been considering the benefits of vaccinations for teenagers after they were asked to make a decision by Health Secretary Sajid Javid.
Earlier this month the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), who usually advise on jabs strategy, said the benefits and risks were too finely balanced to make a decision.
They said “the margin of benefit is considered too small” to support giving injections to teenagers and passed on the decision.
There has been concern amongst some that it would be wrong to give vaccines to children, who are usually less hard hit by the virus, if there is no clear benefit.
