Chris McCausland brings nation to tears with ‘best thing ever seen on Strictly’
Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell had Strictly fans in their feels with their latest routine.
The pairing impressed with a beautiful Waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Peacemakers.
In one segment of the dance, Chris, 47, danced without Dianne, 35, before she came rushing towards him. They then returned to Ballroom hold for the rest of the song.
The combination of comedian Chris’ solo, the beautiful steps, and his VT describing the love he has for his home city of Liverpool led to a lot of emotion.
The dance was dedicated to fans of Liverpool City football club. The song is poignant for many people as it was performed by a lone choir singer the day after the Hillsborough tragedy, where 97 Liverpool fans died in the fatal crowd crush.
Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas, who is from Liverpool, said they needed a moment after watching the ‘heavenly’ routine. While Shirley described it as ‘magical’. For their efforts, they were awarded an impressive 35 – their highest score so far in the competition.
People watching at home were equally impressed with Chris, who is the first blind person to take part in Strictly and shared the emotional impact watching it had on them.
‘That was so beautiful from Chris and Dianne, I’m bawling,’ wrote Kendal on X.
‘That solo walk from Chris is one of the best things I’ve ever seen on this show.’
‘Floods of tears at Chris’ dance. What a truly brilliant man,’ added Louise Page.
Jas summarised the mood: ‘Chris & Dianne doing a waltz, not a dry eye in the house.’
‘I genuinely can’t believe what I’m watching. This show has never made me cry with happiness until now. Dianne Buswell and Chris McCausland are a modern-day miracle. Stunning,’ contributed Kevws.
Chris’s impressive run of performances – and popularity with the audience – have made him a firm favourite to win this year’s Strictly.
Bookies currently have Chris and Dianne as favourite to take the glitterball trophy, with William Hill giving the pair odds of 4/9 to win – with Love Island star Tasha Ghouri just behind at 4/1.
However, Chris recently spoke about how he wanted to do it on his own merit and to not get the ‘sympathy vote’.
‘I don’t want to be the sympathy vote. I don’t mind being a bad dancer. I don’t mind people laughing at me because I’m a comical dancer or a bad dancer, but I didn’t want it to be a calamity because I can’t see,’ he said to The Mirror.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC on Saturdays at 6:25pm and Sundays at 7:20pm.
