Chris Kamara moved audiences as he belted a ballad alongside Russell Watson and Aled Jones for ITV’s Britain Get Singing.
The former football pundit took on the challenge of returning to his popular Masked Singer costume for this one off charity show and singing You Raise Me Up.
With lyrics such as ‘I am strong’ and ‘You raise me up… To more than I can be’, the moving track choice showcased Kammy’s return to health.
He has been struggling for the past few years as the 65-year-old shared he’d been diagnosed with apraxia after concern over his slurred speech.
Kammy donned his Ghost costume after being unmasked in the first episode of 2023 and joined Traffic Cone (Aled) and Cockroach (Russel) on stage.
While the judges heaped praise on the beloved sports broadcaster, he reflected on his journey since his diagnosis – which included a trip to Mexico to try and gain back his speech.

‘Can you believe it? Chris Kamara is singing with these two,’ Chris said before getting emotional and adding: ‘My life was over two years ago and now it’s back on track’
Apraxia is a disorder of the brain and nervous system which prevents muscles working as they should, resulting in slurred speech or other movement limitations.
Responding to Chris, Aled said: ‘I’ll never think of that song in the same was again.’
The judges were moved by the performance, with Aleisha Dixon close to tears, and Adam Lambert praised: ‘Kammy, you’re showing that no matter what comes your way you can persevere and you can have that bravery and find it within.’
Viewers were equally enamoured with X flooded with people simply saying ‘Kammy!’ with heart emojis and that they were crying.

‘Protect Kammy at all costs 😫,’ tweeted fan Ash Cloke while Jon added: ‘Well done Kammie still got a great voice 👏.’
Viewer Jack Stuart said he was ‘so inspiring’ for being brave enough to get on stage and sing.
Since quitting his job on Sky Sport’s Soccer Saturday after 24 years in April 2022, the former footballer has worked to raise awareness of the condition.
It came after Chris revealed he suffered from suicidal thoughts after the diagnosis, he shared that he could only see himself ‘as a burden’ and felt like ‘a shell of the man I used to be that they would be left to look after’.
He then explained how he was left thinking that this family would be ‘better off’ without him.
Kammy’s appearance on Britain Get Singing was a triumph with fans who are rooting for the star to stay strong.
