A gran who caused outrage after celebrating the death of Queen Elizabeth II has shut up shop.

Jaki Pickett, who previously ran Jaki’s Fish and Chip Shop in Muir of Ord, the Scottish Highlands, was plagued by abuse after posting a video on the shop’s Facebook page of herself popping a bottle of champagne.

Just hours after the Queen’s death was announced in September pictures showed Jaki, a grandma of two, holding up a chalkboard that read ‘Lizard Liz Dead and London Bridge has fallen.’

The anti-monarchist was forced to flee her own shop after angry people threw eggs and squirted ketchup at the windows.

The initial anger escalated so far a later video shows Jaki driving away from the scene while being booed by a large crowd. At least three police cars were present at the scene.

Although the posts were deleted from Facebook, Jaki continued to be abused on social media with people negatively rating her shop online.

She also had her shop windows smashed.

But now she has given up her business and the shop is under new management.

A sign is now hanging on the shop’s door which reads: ‘As of Friday 21st October, Jaki’s Chip Shop will be under new management. Please welcome Kerry who has now taken over.

‘Thank you for your 10 years custom and I wish Kerry all the best.’

Although the chippie is still called Jaki’s and the old sign still hangs above the door for now, it is understood a new name and sign for the business will be put up in the near future.

New owner Kerry Paterson wrote online she had taken over the lease of the business from Jaki.

She said: ‘Hi my name is Kerry, I’ve recently taken over the chip shop in Muir of Ord formally known as Jaki’s. I will be reopening on Friday, October 21 at 4pm until 8pm and I look forward to serving the community of Muir of Ord and giving them a chippy once more.

‘Jaki will not be part of the business or have anything to do with it. I am leasing the shop from her, I’m starting out and would appreciate the support from the community, thank you.’

Jaki was banned from the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), which condemned her for her comments and video.

A statement read: ‘The NFFF has been made aware of social media posts made by one of our members that are in extremely bad taste and completely against all of the values our organisation and industry hold dear.

‘We have discussed this as a board and have taken the decision to revoke the membership of this business owner and we will be writing to them and asking them to remove all association of the NFFF from her business, social media and websites.’
