Children among scores killed in latest Israeli attacks in Lebanon and Gaza
Israeli airstrikes on northern Lebanon and Gaza have killed dozens of people, including several children, according to local officials and rescuers.
In northern Lebanon, the health ministry reported that at least 23 people, including seven children, were killed on Sunday in the village of Almat near Byblos, located north of Beirut. Rescue teams continue to search the rubble for survivors.
Meanwhile, in Gaza, the civil defence agency stated that Israeli strikes on two homes in the besieged enclave killed at least 30 people. In Jabalia, an early Sunday strike claimed the lives of “at least 25” people, including 13 children, and injured over 30 others. Another strike in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood killed five more people, with several still missing.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the strikes targeted sites linked to militant activities. The IDF alleged that Hezbollah had stored weapons and operated from the site targeted in Lebanon, while the strike in Jabalia was said to target “terrorists operating” in the area.
The IDF stated that “numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harm to civilians,” including using aerial surveillance and precise intelligence, but the aftermath has raised questions about the civilian toll.
