Chelsea youngster Andrey Santos has returned to the club after an unsuccessful loan move to Nottingham Forest, saying the short-term switch ‘wasn’t how we all imagined’.

The 19-year-old moved to Chelsea from Brazilian side Vasco de Gama last year and featured in pre-season under Mauricio Pochettino over the summer.

However, with a lot of competition for places in midfield at Stamford Bridge and with the Brazilian’s lack of first team experience, he decided to make a loan move to Forest.

The teenager has not gained the first team experience he was hoping for, making just one substitute Premier League appearance and turning out once in the League Cup in the starting XI for the Tricky Trees.

It was due to be a season-long loan for the prospect, who has one cap for Brazil, but he has now been recalled by Chelsea.

Speaking to Globo, he said he is thrilled to be back in west London, saying of his loan move: ‘It was my choice. Unfortunately it wasn’t how we all imagined .

‘I imagined that I was going to play and so on, I was always ready, always well, but it was the coach’s choice, and I respect it. I continued working and, thank God, I’m back at Chelsea, ready to do my best in any team I’m in.’

Santos admitted it took him some time to get used to the style of play in the Premier League, having only previously experienced South America, but he reckons he is up to speed now.

‘I think it took me a little while to adapt, I think a month, it was the speed of the game,’ he said.

‘It’s very different, Premier League people are very intense, very fast, very strong . I think it took me a month to adapt there, but today I’m calm about it.’
