Channel migrants crisis: United Nations condemns Priti Patel’s ‘risky’ plan to turn boats around to France
The i says Priti Patel’s plans to allow the UK Border Force to turn back boats carrying migrants across the English Channel have been condemned by the United Nations (UN).
The UN’s Refugee Agency, known as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it was “very concerned” by the UK’s plans to change maritime law and pushback migrant boats.
A UNHCR spokesperson said: “We are very concerned by these reports primarily due to the potential risks involved for those at sea seeking safety.
