Champions League final: Manchester City vs Inter Milan: odds, prediction, team news
Manchester City will take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul on June 10.
The champions league is the pinnacle of club football – it’s a battle between the best teams in Europe. But this game is likely to be dominated by Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are just one game from the historic treble and if they win, it will only be the 10th we’ve ever seen in Europe. The last treble won by an English club was Manchester United in the 1998/99 season under Sir Alex Fergerson. After beating Man United in last weekend’s FA Cup and having already won the Premier League, City already have a domestic double under their belt.
City are Champions of England’s Premier League whilst their rivals came in third-place in Italy’s Series A league. The bookies give the English side a nearly 80% chance of winning the trophy.
According to rankings compiled by ClubElo.com, a website that tracks football teams’ performance over time using Elo, a statistical rating system, Manchester City are by far the best team in Europe.
Key facts
- This will be the first competitive meeting between City and Inter.
- Erling Haaland has scored 12 goals for Man City in the Champions League this season – the joint-most by a player for an English team in a single campaign
- The Opta supercomputer makes City huge favourites, giving them a 74.1% chance of lifting the trophy, compared to 25.9% for Inter.
- If Pep Guardiola’s Man City win – the club then win the treble (league win, domestic cup and European trophy). City won the Premier League last month, last week they won the FA Cup and they’re on course for the Champions League final win.
- Inter’s last Champions League triumph came in 2010 under the management of Jose Mourinho; City have never won the competition but came runners-up two years ago.
- Both teams won their respective domestic cup competitions this term, the FA Cup and Coppa Italia, but while City also won the Premier League, Inter were only third in Serie A.

What is the team news?
Kyle Walker has been hampered in preparations for the final by a muscle injury, but he has vowed to be back fit and pending any late setbacks, he should be included in the squad. There are no other injury issues for Pep Guardiola to worry about.
Milan Skriniar is back in training for Inter Milan after an injury, though it’s doubtful he’ll earn a place in the starting back three, with Simone Inzaghi’s plans already set. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Joaquin Correa are both hoping to be passed fit for the final too, with the latter probably having least chance after an injury in the Coppa Italia final.

Prediction
It’s a huge task for the Serie A side to stop this City juggernaut and it seems they’ll finally get their hands on the trophy which has thus far eluded them. Man City 2-0 Inter Milan. – The Independent
With Man City winning the ball back higher up the field on average than any other Champions League team this season (47.2m from their own net), and Inter doing so closest to their goal (38.4m), a classic attack-versus-defence encounter may ensue in Istanbul. We says City 2-1 Inter – SportsMole
