Cliff Notes – Celebrity Traitors’ Jonathan Ross ‘didn’t enjoy’ show as he issues warning to future stars

    • Jonathan Ross described his experience on Celebrity Traitors as ‘uncomfortable’, particularly due to the constant lying required as a Traitor.
    • Despite the show’s success, drawing over 6.1 million viewers, Ross advised potential participants to consider his negative experience before joining.
    • The series has already generated controversy, notably after Alan Carr’s shocking betrayal of Paloma Faith, which has left fans eager for the next episode.

Celebrity Traitors star Jonathan Ross has revealed his ‘uncomfortable’ experience on the show.

The comedian, 64, is one of the stars of the BBC’s first-ever Celebrity Traitors, and he drew the short straw after being dubbed a Traitor alongside Alan Carr and Cat Burns.

The spin-off version, also helmed by Claudia Winkleman, has already proved a mammoth success, drawing in over 6.1 million viewers for its launch episode and instantly being hailed ‘excellent’ by viewers everywhere.

In the Scottish Highlands castle, Jonathan is also joined by a team of Faithfuls attempting to root out the snakes, including Stephen Fry, Tom Daley, and Kate Garraway.

However, it’s not all been rainbows and sunshine with Jonathan sharing that the stressful experience was enough to warn others away.

Discussing it with his daughter, Honey, on their podcast, Reel Talk, he said: ‘I know they’re already planning a second celebrity version.

‘I know because I’ve had two celebrity friends of mine call me and say, “I’ve been approached — is it good to do, is it bad to do?” So I’m giving them the benefit of my experience, which was I didn’t enjoy it.’

As Honey pointed out, she knew it had been ‘really difficult and really challenging’ for him.

As he explained: ‘Now you know I’m a Traitor, that’s why. I found the lying really wearing, it left me feeling increasingly uncomfortable,’ with Honey sharing that he was being forced to deceive people he had known for a ‘really long time’.

The TV star continued: ‘That’s the thing, we were lying all the time, because you’re sharing a car with people in the morning, and even though we’re not supposed to be talking about the game obviously some people do, so you’re lying then.’

He also pointed out that ‘obviously there’s so much left on the cutting room floor’ when it comes to how the show was edited.

‘I think they should release a director’s cut Alan Carr special because there are so many funny things he did and said which I know already [didn’t make it].’

The show has already caused quite the stir after last week’s dramatic twist, where Alan murdered his dear friend Paloma Faith, who became the first celebrity victim.

Discussing the betrayal on The One Show, the singer-songwriter said that she ‘forgives but she never forgets’ and even quipped that her four-year-old daughter had barred Alan from coming to their house.

Meanwhile, the hitmaker has mourned the fate of her six unopened suitcases filled to the brim with fabulous outfits to wear for the duration of the show, admitting she had felt ‘humiliated and embarrassed’ after her short stint.

Now, fans are waiting with bated breath to see who will be banished after the first round table.

It is currently a toss-up between Kate Garraway, who has drawn the suspicion of diver Daley and Clare Balding with her dramatic statements or Niko Omilana, who is racing to gain the trust of his fellow contestants.

The Traitors returns to BBC One on Wednesday at 9pm.
