An influx of Arctic air, causing temperatures to plunge and snow forecasts to intensify. Weather patterns have shifted dramatically, leading authorities to prepare for hazardous conditions.
‘Ice will be an additional hazard across the highlighted region.’
People in some UK towns and cities – including Liverpool – have woken up to a thick layer of snow this morning and temperatures plunged to an icy -3C.
‘Throughout the week we are going to see more and more snow showers and warnings, towards the end of the week we will probably see an accumulation.’
Icy patches are also expected on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, with some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces possible.
‘We’re looking at a strong northerly wind which is bringing in Arctic airmass which is cold, which is bringing in these wintry showers across windward parts.’
The entire country is set to wake up to subzero temperatures this week, as a freezing Arctic blizzard dumps snow across most of the UK.
