A Russian warship conducted a live-fire artillery exercise 40 miles off Plymouth’s coast, monitored by the Royal Navy. The Russian frigate Neustrashimy notified HMS Tyne of its intentions before the 30-minute operation, which required the patrol vessel to maintain a safer distance.

Thursday’s front pages focus on a major report on the NHS which is to be published today. Lord Darzi’s report on the state of the NHS in England is set to say major reform is needed for the national health service.
