A man has been charged with two counts of murder following a house fire in Grangetown, Middlesbrough, that resulted in the deaths of seven-year-old Valentina Foster and her aunt, Natalie McDonald, aged 34. Jaden Wright, 23, faces multiple charges and will appear in court.

Thomasina and Patrick Tobin, a couple from London, died in their villa jacuzzi in Cullera, Spain, reportedly from cardiac arrests attributed to a freak accident. Their teenage children discovered them on 25 August. Police investigations suggest possible entrapment due to suction force in the hot tub.

Ofcom has announced new online safety rules aimed at keeping young people safe online. The regulator, which now also oversees online safety, has published more than 40 measures that tech firms and online platforms (aimed at kids) must follow. Failure to do this could see the firms/ platforms face a fine of up to £18 million – or ten per cent of their qualifying worldwide revenue.
