Testing in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, revealed that nearly 70% of 49 residents had elevated levels of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a substance banned for its carcinogenic properties. One individual recorded over 400ng/ml, the highest level in the UK to date, raising health concerns linked to a nearby AGC Chemicals Europe factory.
Yvonne Ford, 59, died from rabies following a minor scratch from a stray puppy during a holiday in Morocco. Initially dismissed as insignificant, the scratch prompted no medical consultation. After returning to the UK, her health rapidly declined, leading to her death on 11 June. Her family is now advocating for increased rabies awareness.
David Parfett has condemned online poison sellers for their role in the suicides of young people in the UK, following the death of his son Tom in October 2021. Kenneth Law, who supplied Tom with the toxic substance, faces sentencing after admitting to aiding multiple suicides, with families expected to provide impact statements in court.
Polish opposition parties appear to have won enough votes in Sunday’s parliamentary election to oust the governing nationalist conservative party, with the highly-anticipated election bringing out the largest numbers of voters in decades.
