Juliet shared her devastating news with mum Donna-Marie (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Blackshaw) found the courage in Hollyoaks to tell mum Donna-Marie Quinn (Lucy-Jo Hudson) that she is dying.

The popular character, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, was told by doctors earlier this week that her cancer had spread and there was nothing more they could do for her.

The news was tough for not only Juliet to get her head around, but also Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), who was adamant that her girlfriend should reveal her prognosis to her loved ones.

Juliet, however, refused, with Tuesday’s (May 16) first look offering of the Channel 4 soap seeing her instead decide to throw a party, after informing Romeo (Owen Warner) and Donna-Marie that she was going to get the stem cell transplant.

Peri explained her doubts about how Juliet was dealing with her sad news, encouraging her once more to open up to her friends and family, but Jules reiterated her desire to have a blast with her loved ones instead, with Peri subsequently agreeing to keep shtum.

The party proved a success at first, but Juliet started to imagine the party-goers in attendance at her funeral instead, with Peri and Romeo seen in mourning.

This proved to be a breakthrough moment for Juliet, who subsequently broke down in Peri’s arms in powerful scenes, unable to comprehend the fact that she’s dying, especially given her young age.

‘I’m not ready to go!’, she exclaimed, as Peri held her tight.

Donna-Marie, meanwhile, heard the tail-end of the conversation and, knowing she couldn’t put it off any longer, Juliet confided in her mum, revealing that she is dying.
