Sah and Teddy ended up trapped in the shop (Picture: BBC)
In a previous episode of Casualty, new paramedic Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) promised worried shopkeeper Krish (Anil Goutam) that he would support him after a gang of youths caused trouble in the shop and beat Krish up. Jacob even went as far as to give the other man his phone number.
But when Krish really needed Jacob in Saturday (April 22)’s episode as the boys once again headed towards the shop, Jacob told him he had to work and said if he was worried he should call the police.
While the boys set about smashing up the shop and even urinating on Krish’s precious photograph of his son, it was all too much and the panicked shop owner pulled out a gun – and we heard a shot being fired.
Before long, Teddy (Milo Clarke) and Sah (Arin Smethurst) were called to the scene, and found one boy who’d been wounded with a baseball bat. They needed to keep him warm so Teddy looked around the shop for something to use and spotted another casualty, and this one had been shot dead by Krish. Then Teddy realised that Krish was pointing the gun at him.
Meanwhile Jacob and Iain (Michael Stevenson) were looking after Craig (Neil Ashton), a man who was having chest pains after taking a lot of recreational drugs the night before. He was also handcuffed to his bed, but it was a far from comic situation as his health was deteriorating fast and the fire brigade were delayed in coming out to get him free. Then over their radios they heard what was happening at Krish’s shop, with Sah saying ‘You’ve already killed one teenager’ and Teddy trying to reason with Krish.
As soon as Jacob heard Krish’s voice he knew where his colleagues were and what was happening and was desperate to go and help. Iain told him firmly that they had to stay with their patient, but Jacob was rushing out of the door even as another crew and the fire service were arriving.

Back at the shop, Teddy had realised that Krish could be about to turn the gun on himself and, to distract him, started asking him about his son and talking about his own family. This included his Aunty Jan (Di Botcher), who had earlier had a go at Teddy saying it was time to ‘grow up and be a man for once in your life.’
Well, Teddy was certainly being a man in that tense situation and talked Krish round to the point where he was ready to hand over the gun. Then Jacob appeared and in the confusion Krish fired a shot in the general direction of Sah. Teddy bravely and instinctively jumped in front of his colleague and was badly wounded.
It was touch and go for Teddy for a while but he’s going to be fine – unlike Jacob’s patient Craig, who died in the ED.
‘You were bang out of order today,’ Iain told Jacob. He said it was all about being part of a team and there was no room for a ‘lone wolf’ – and if Jacob couldn’t accept that, maybe he isn’t cut out to be a paramedic.
Could Jacob’s new job be over almost before it’s begun?
Elsewhere, Jan was hugely relieved that Teddy was going to be fine after his ordeal and she told him that she was proud of him. She also had some apologising to do to her ex-husband, Gethin (Robert Pugh), who revealed that he has motor neurone disease and that’s why he’s been shaky and falling over, not because of alcohol as Jan assumed.

Faith (Kirsty Mitchell)’s daughter reassured her that she and her siblings were fine with Faith dating Iain, so that’s one problem less for Faith. She’s still popping off to the toilet to take drugs just to get through a shift, though, so life is still far from plain sailing for her.
And Dylan (William Beck) has offered to give Donna (Jaye Jacobs) lifts to and from work after her car was towed away thanks to him. He’s not looking forward to her ‘banging car tunes playlist,’ though.
