Call Of Duty 2023 is Modern Warfare 3 by Sledgehammer says insider

Despite apparently starting out as Modern Warfare 2 DLC, it’s claimed Activision is treating its 2023 Call Of Duty as a full-blown sequel.

Although Activision is yet to say anything definitive about this year’s Call Of Duty, reliable insider sources have claimed that what was once a DLC expansion for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has now ballooned into a full game.

The implication was that while it would continue the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline, it wouldn’t necessarily be a traditional sequel. More of a Modern Warfare 2.5, if you will.

However, the newest claims suggests that the 2023 entry will now be sold as Modern Warfare 3, even though it’s been made by Vanguard developer Sledgehammer and not Modern Warfare 1 and 2 creator Infinity Ward.

Aside from a new campaign, multiplayer, and a Zombies mode, Modern Warfare 3 is said to have additional Warzone 2 integration by adding a new map – Las Almas – to the battle royale during Modern Warfare 3’s first season of post-launch content.

Las Almas is actually a location from Modern Warfare 2’s campaign, although whether this means it’ll also feature in Modern Warfare 3’s campaign is anyone’s guess.

Unsurprisingly, this info comes from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who has regularly provided accurate Call Of Duty leaks.

He adds that several of his sources describe Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode as a continuation of the Outbreak mode from 2021’s Black Ops Cold War. Instead of a rounds-based fight for survival, Outbreak drops you in a large area comprised of multiple maps where you tackle objectives while fending of the undead hordes.

Apparently, Activision has yet to decide whether to package the Zombies mode with Modern Warfare 3 or make it a separate free-to-play experience.

Henderson recently said that a reveal for the game is scheduled for August, so you only have to wait a few more months for official details from Activision.

Although Infinity Ward is believed to be involved with overseeing the new game it’s peculiar that they’re not being given the chance to finish the trilogy they started.

It’s believed that’s because of the ever-changing nature of this year’s Call Of Duty plans, where originally there was going to be no game, then DLC, and now a full-price release.
