Burkini ban is Islamophobia, swimming pool protesters claim
The Times says six women have been expelled from a municipal swimming pool in Grenoble and fined for wearing “burkini” full-body bathing suits in a protest against anti-Muslim discrimination.
The women were among a group of 30 from Citizen Alliance, an activist group, who staged the action to press Éric Piolle, the Green mayor of the city, to lift a ban on the suits in the city’s pools.
Burkinis are prohibited in most French public pools and on some beaches for reasons of hygiene and security.
