Cameron Norrie crashed out of the French Open in the third round on Friday as 17th-seed Lorenzo Musetti beat the British No.1 6-1 6-2 6-4.

The 27-year-old massively struggled and made a huge 49 unforced errors, which former British player Naomi Broady described as ‘bizarre’.

Norrie’s defeat means there are no more British players left standing in the singles after Dan Evans and Jack Draper lost in the opening round at Roland-Garros.

He was bidding to reach the fourth round of the French Open for the first time in his career but will now turn his attentions towards the grass-court season.

Norrie will be hoping for a better run at Wimbledon in July following his run to the semi-finals last year – his best Grand Slam performance to date.

The world No.13 would have likely faced world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the last 16 in Pairs, who along with Novak Djokovic is the favourite to lift this year’s title.

Alcaraz faces Denis Shapovalov in the third round later on Friday and is on a collision course to meet Djokovic in the semi-finals.

Norrie beat two French players on his way to the third round at Roland-Garros and pleaded with the crowd to start supporting him after he was loudly booed.

Speaking during Norrie’s defeat to Musetti, former British player Broady told the BBC: ‘It’s bizarre that he’s coming up with this many unforced errors.’

After the match, when quizzed what Norrie should do next, Broady added: ‘Have a day off! There’s just some days when it’s not your day. It’s back to the drawing board.

‘I think he’ll be disappointed with his European clay [campaign] as he had such high hopes.

‘He went to South America after the Australian Open, he did so well there [on clay]. He played those two finals, beat Alcaraz in one.

‘I don’t know if he’s overplayed or maybe just had too high of an expectation.’
