A British bar owner has died after falling from a Lanzarote terrace during a scuffle with a drunken ‘troublemaker’.
Chris Thomas, 50, is said to have plunged around 13 feet down a flight of steps during a fight with a German expat on Sunday.
He was rushed to hospital but died as a result of his injuries on Monday.
A 46-year-old German national has been arrested on suspicion of homicide.
Local reports said the German had been banned from several bars in the island resort of Costa Teguise because he was known as a troublemaker who often got into brawls.
Investigators are understood to be in the process of analysing CCTV footage to see if he deliberately pushed the British man and should be charged with murder or manslaughter.
Chris was the owner of The Clock bar, where friends have left tributes on the Facebook page.
Ken Moore wrote: ‘A huge hole has been left in our hearts and minds. A true gentleman. A lovely man. A great character. A smile that would light up any room.

‘The world has lost someone very special. He will be missed by so many.’
Stacey Lee said: ‘So sad to hear this, one thing I always noticed about Chris was his amazing smile and twinkle in his eye, may you rest in peace Chris.’
It is currently unclear whether the incident happened at The Clock or elsewhere.
A spokesman for the investigating judge said: ‘With regards to the death that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Costa Teguise in Lanzarote, Court of Instruction Number Four in Arrecife has confirmed it is investigating a man on suspicion of homicide.
‘This person has exercised his constitutional right not to say anything and has been remanded in prison.’
