Mrs Brown’s Boys is going absolutely nowhere, as Brendan O’Carroll has vowed to continue the controversial series.

We were recently blessed with the ‘most shocking episode ever’ as Danny O’Carroll’s character planted a kiss on his dad, aka Agnes Brown, during the Christmas Day chaos.

Ahead of the New Year’s Day installment, the 68-year-old – who serves as creator and titular character – spilled the beans on the future of the comedy.

In a new chat, he declared: ‘As long as the BBC keep asking, we’ll keep making episodes.

‘It’s down to what the BBC want and what we can plan around.’

‘We are definitely making more specials,’ he added to the Daily Star. ‘Whether we do another full series or not depends on dates.’

BBC viewers have spent the festive period with Mrs Brown and her boys for the last few years, with many left divided over the episodes.

This year’s festive offering had a lot of competition as it was slated to air seconds after that iconic installment of EastEnders, in which ‘The Six’ rallied against the men of Walford – following 10 months of teasing.

Many questioned the decision to schedule the controversial comedy directly after the bombshell visit to Albert Square, and compared it to ‘being stabbed’.

Despite frequently being panned by critics, the sitcom has been going since 2011, and Brendan clapped back at those who bashed his venture.

Fans had a lot to say about the recent episodes (Picture: BBC)

‘First of all, I’m well aware that comedy is very subjective,’ he told BBC Radio Sounds in a recent interview.

‘What some people like, other people just detest. So I don’t take it too serious.

‘When we started… by about the fourth or fifth episode, we got a couple of letters from people who had autistic children.

‘It started as a couple of letters and it’s now been over 3,000. And they said that their kids watched Mrs Brown and they heard them laugh in context for the very first time.

‘One woman said she was in the kitchen and heard her son laughing for the very first time.

‘So when you get a letter like that, I don’t care what the critics say. That’ll do me.’

The Mrs Brown’s Boys New Year’s Special airs at 10pm on New Year’s Day.
