Brazil’s prosecutor charges Jair Bolsonaro, says he approved plot to poison Lula

Brazil’s prosecutor-general has charged former President Jair Bolsonaro with attempting a coup to stay in power after his 2022 election defeat, alleging that he knew and approved of a plot to poison his successor, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The case, which also accuses Bolsonaro’s allies of planning to assassinate a Supreme Court justice, marks a dramatic escalation in the legal battles surrounding the far-right leader.
