Brazil’s team doctor has eased concerns over the decision to include Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus in the squad despite his recent injury problem.

Jesus has missed Arsenal’s last five games after suffering a hamstring injury in the Champions League victory away to Sevilla – a game in which he scored and provided an assist.

Despite being sidelined, the former Manchester City star was named in the Brazil squad for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.

Mikel Arteta has repeatedly aired his concerns over his player’s participation during the international break, insisting he should not be involved having not trained with the Gunners team for a number of weeks.

Arsenal and Brazil have been in constant contact with Globo Esporte reporting the five-time World Cup winners are planning to have Jesus ready and available for their match against Argentina on Wednesday 22 November.

Jesus has made the journey back to Brazil with his European-based international teammates and will be further assessed by Brazil’s medical department but he is not expected to be fit for Friday’s meeting with Colombia.

Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar provided an update on Jesus on Tuesday, insisting the Arsenal star is being carefully monitored with head coach Fernando Diniz eager to have him part of the group.

‘We are following the player’s situation since he was injured,’ Lasmar said.

‘We have maintained contact with the club’s medical department and the athlete. He is recovering from a muscle injury to the back of his right thigh.

“He is adapting on the field and the fact that we bring the player is Diniz’s philosophy to have him close, monitor his day to day life. As soon as he arrives, he will go through all the evaluations.

He added: ‘I’ll talk to the doctors and Edu. He did not do any training with the team, is far from returning, and has internal communication between clubs and national teams.

‘Let’s look for the best, above all, for the player.’
