Boyzone stars still missing Stephen Gately ‘dearly’ 15 years after his death

Boyzone have said they are still heartbroken over the death of bandmate Stephen Gately more than a decade after his death.

Gately died 15 years ago today at his holiday home in Majorca aged 33 from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Three of his bandmates Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch have paid tribute to him on the anniversary of his death.

On Instagram, Keith shared archive footage of Gately performing and being interviewed on TV, writing: ‘A Brother’s Heart. Steo, my brother, my friend.

‘It’s been 15 years since you left us, but the memories of you remain as vivid as ever.

‘Your laughter, your spirit, your infectious energy – they’re a constant in my life. I miss you dearly. Love always.’

Ronan shared a picture of Gately and wrote ’15 years’ alongside a broken heart emoji, while Shane posted a group shot of Boyzone from the 90s with the caption: ’76-09-10-10.’ Those numbers symbolise the late singer’s years of birth and death.

Fans also shared their memories of Gately on the social media site, with @vannyssregina writing: ‘Always and Forever in our hearts❤️❤️. Steo will always be missed❤️.’

@becky.phillips3 said: ‘He had amazing stage presence, such a memorable voice. He’ll never be forgotten Kitty. Can’t believe it’s been 15yrs!’

@blackers71 also added: ‘What a voice he had! So sad.. thinking of you guys today, I remember years ago I came to see Boyzone & was lucky to go backstage and Ronan was late as he’d just come off the phone to Steo’s Mum 😢😢💔 xx.’

Gately, Ronan, Keith, Shane and  Mikey Graham rose to fame as part of the wildly popular Irish boyband Boyzone in the 1990s.

They have sold 6.3 million albums and 8 million singles in the UK, with 25 million records sold worldwide.

In the UK, they had a total of six number one singles, including A Different Beat, All That I Need and When the Going Gets Tough.

After Gately’s death, the group continued as a four-piece and released a farewell album, Thank You & Goodnight, in 2018.

Keith also formed ‘supergroup’ Boyzlife with Brian McFadden of Westlife – another Irish boyband featuring Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne.
