A 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in Northampton has been named as Rohan Shand.
The teenager, who was from the city, was affectionately known to his friends and family as Fred.
He died following the incident on Harborough Road, close to the junction with The Cock Hotel, yesterday afternoon.
Northamptonshire Police said an examination by a Home Office pathologist had indicated he was killed by a single stab wound to the chest.
Four men aged 49, 21, 16 and 14, have been arrested in connection with Fred’s death and currently remain in police custody.
The neighbourhood and wider community are ‘very shocked and upset’ by the incident, a police statement said, adding that Fred’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.
The statement said relatives had asked people to refrain from sharing insensitive posts and images on social media, as they would be likely to cause even more distress.
Officers had been called to the scene, in the Kingsthorpe area of Northampton, at around 3.35pm yesterday.
However, despite the best efforts of paramedics, Fred died shortly afterwards.
