Boris Johnson says school day should be extended to help pupils recover from Covid-19 pandemic
The i says teachers will be instructed to extend the school day later this year to help pupils catch up with learning lost due to the pandemic, Boris Johnson has signalled.
The Prime Minister suggested that after-school classes could cover extracurricular activities rather than further academic lessons – but did not explain how the programme would be funded.
Questioned by senior MPs on the Commons liaison committee, Mr Johnson said: “The evidence on lengthening the school day wasn’t as powerful as it was on tuition for instance but that doesn’t mean it isn’t the right thing to do – I do think it’s the right thing to do.
