Flatgate scandal: Boris Johnson to face MPs amid £200k flat revamp

Flatgate scandal: Boris Johnson to face MPs amid £200k flat revamp

PM Boris Johnson will face MPs in the Commons amid accusations from Labour and media that he lied over who paid for his Downing Street flat renovations.

Boris Johnson will appear at prime minister’s questions for the first time since he was accused of planning for donors to “secretly pay” for the work.

A No 10 spokesman refused to say if the PM initially received a loan to cover the revamp costs.

It’s not against the rules to receive donations, but politicians must declare them so the public knows who has given them the money and whether it has had any influence on their decisions.

The PM said relevant donations would be declared “in due course.” And his spokesman said the costs “have been met by the prime minister personally.”
