Boodles heist: Thief who swapped £4.2m diamonds for pebbles faces jail
The Times says an international hunt for £4.2 million of diamonds stolen from Boodles in Mayfair will continue after a thief who tried to blame it on her dead sister was jailed yesterday.
Lulu Lakatos, 60, used sleight of hand to replace seven diamonds with pebbles of the same weight while posing as a gem expert to value the stones for wealthy Russian buyers.
Lakatos, whose haul included a 20.06 carat heart-shaped diamond valued at £2.2 million, was jailed for five and a half years at Southwark crown court.
