Bobby Brazier admits he has no memory of late mum Jade Goody as he weighs in on ‘nepo baby’ debate

Bobby Brazier has spoken about the death of his mum, Jade Goody, in a rare interview.

The Big Brother star died in 2009 at the age of 27, after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Son Bobby, now 19, was just five at the time. Goody shared both him and younger son Freddy, 17, with TV presenter Jeff Brazier.

Actor Bobby – who bagged the role of Freddie Slater in EastEnders – has now said that there’s ‘not a lot’ he remembers about his late mum.

Therefore, he shapes his memories of her on what other people tell him.

Chatting to The Times, he said he might have ‘memories of memories’: ‘I’m always being told about her and what she meant to people. I guess I know my mum through other people’s memories of my mum.’

When the interviewer said his mum was ‘well loved’, Bobby responded with a bright smile: ‘Right. Thanks, Mum, for giving me your amazing personality and your beautiful face.’

Reflecting on his mum’s celebrity status, Bobby admitted he’s ‘never really thought about her experience of fame’, which was tumultuous to say the least, given that she made headlines globally after making racist comments towards Indian actress Shilpa Shetty in 2007.

‘I think to assume that anybody’s experience of fame is glamorous, or that it will make you whole or happy, is silly,’ Bobby shared.

‘It might make some things better, but because of that it’ll make other things worse.’

But he praises his dad for bringing him up level-headed, confessing fame felt ‘inevitable’ since his childhood was all over the tabloids.

‘I’m very clear on what it may entail,’ he said of fame. ‘So it does feel normal, but I don’t feel famous. There’s levels. I don’t see mid-level fame as famous, you know, like a reality star or something like that. I’m not famous until I’m a movie star or Leonardo DiCaprio or someone.’

As for the nepo baby debate – which countless stars have weighed in on, debating whether having famous parents gives you a head start – Bobby also has thoughts.

‘Simply put, what good is an opportunity if you can’t deliver? I really believe in my abilities.

‘So thank you, Mum and Dad, for the opportunities that may come my way. But I can thank me for the belief in myself, and my dad for giving me the belief.’

Bobby has previously said he thinks his late mum would be ‘proud’ of his acting career.

‘She’d be proud. Why wouldn’t she be? Anyone who loves and cares about me, all my friends and family, they’re all proud and all supportive, so I’m sure – well I know – she’d be the same.’
