Billie Eilish Vogue Cover: ‘Sell out? … F*ck it’

Billie Eilish Vogue Cover – Sell Out Or Moving On?

The Mirror starts with a pretty grim statement. “EVERYONE has long wondered what lies beneath Billie’s layers. Admit it, you have,” writes the paper.

Billie Eilish, according to the Mirror, transformed herself from tracksuit-wearing ‘Kevin the teenager into a sexy swan’.

Her mature new look is a hit, but some fans of the singer called her a “sell-out” for swapping her “don’t give a f***” baggy look for a more eye-popping “look at me” racy bondage ensemble.

The paper says at 19, she has the right to wear whatever she likes. And change her mind.

When Harry Styles wore a dress for his Vogue shoot his loyal followers didn’t stop listening to his music and Billie should be no different.

“It doesn’t make you a worse or less successful musician. It makes you normal.”

The Mirror says most women don’t stay “stuck” in their teenage “style rut.” And Billie isn’t the first woman to do so.

Madonna, Kylie, Cher, Beyonce — all aim to empower women and do it while wearing revealing or sexy clothes.

Billie has always been about body positivity, she kept her figure covered so the world wouldn’t judge her. But if her message is to promote a positive attitude to the female form – why should she be judged for deciding to show off hers, says the paper.

Billie Eilish Hits Back At People Calling Her ‘Hypocrite’ For Showing Her Skin In Vogue

LADBible reports Billie Eilish hit back at people who called her a ‘hypocrite’ for the ‘revealing’ Vogue shoot.

The report says the 19-year-old is known for her baggy clothes and black and green hair but for the Vogue shoot she looked ‘completely different.’

“Boasting platinum blonde hair on the new Vogue cover, Eilish can be seen wearing a plunging corset, stockings and a Burberry trench coat.”

Like the Daily Mirror, the LADBIBLE article notes the pop star has long discussed body positivity. They say she had explained that she wore baggy clothes so she couldn’t be the subject to criticism, but after a picture was released last year of Billie wearing a vest and shorts – the pop star was ‘inundated with comments on her figure.’

The article says Billie is taking matters into her own hands, and ‘revealed all for her Vogue cover.’

They say the look is ‘extremely different and contradicts her previous statements about wearing loose clothing’ but Billie Eilish doesn’t care she might come across as a ‘hypocrite.’

    Eilish told the fashion magazine:

[People might say,] ‘If you’re about body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why wouldn’t you show your actual body?’ My thing is that I can do whatever I want.

It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing, f*ck it – if you feel like you look good, you look good.”

The singer went on to add, “Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a whore. If I am, then I’m proud. Me and all the girls are hoes, and f*ck it, y’know? Let’s turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you.”

On That Bombshell Billie Eilish Cover for British Vogue

“The pop star known for defying gender stereotypes got a glamour makeover with a corset. Not everyone is happy about it.”

The New York Times says the popstar wants you to know she’s in charge. She’s “ brash and self-assured enough to scrap the raffish image that helped garner her a world of fans in favor of something a little more … adult.”

The Vogue shoot wardrobe choice was her own, Edward Enninful, the magazine’s editor in chief, wrote in the June issue.

“What if, she wondered, she wanted to show more of her body for the first time in a fashion story?” Mr. Enninful recalled.

“What if she wanted to play with corsetry and revel in the aesthetic of the mid-20th century pin-ups she’s always loved? It was time, she said, for something new.”

The paper says Eilish is owning her new look and the icon of body positivity who ‘once clocked her curves’ appears to be done with all that.

“Her pushback has been her agency in this,” said Lucie Greene, a trend forecaster and brand consultant. “After all, like many of her Gen Z peers, Eilish has a sophisticated understanding of visual language and representation. She’s built a following for confidently subverting beauty codes. And she’s applying the same confidence to this.”

Still, some may well question her agency, asking if, at 19, Ms. Eilish has the sense or sagacity to weather the possible fallout.

Ms. Eilish seems similarly inclined to present her metamorphosis as a shrewdly brazen, self-determined update, the paper writes.

“Before: unique, different, a class of her own,” @jetztissesraus posted, also on Twitter. “After: mainstream, exchangeable, slick and polished. Why?”

The New York Times says the question was bound to arise. They say in her earlier career she could claim the distinction of being a one-off. A stylist, she insisted, had no place in her life. “I could easily just be like, you know what, you’re going to pick out my clothes, someone else will come up with my video treatments, someone else will direct them and I won’t have anything to do with them,” she said in a profile in The New York Times. “But I’m not that kind of person and I’m not that kind of artist.”

Her transformation suggests that Eilish is ‘content these days to abandon her formerly maverick stance in favor of a fetish-tinctured bombshell look that seemed hackneyed when Madonna was a girl’.

‘If her reinvention poses a risk, it is that of becoming just another cliché,’ the article writes.
