Benjamin Pavard sent the rumour mill into overdrive on Monday night when he responded to Manchester United’s win against Wolves.
Raphael Varane scored 15 minutes from time to give United a fortunate victory at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the season.
It was a far from convincing display from Erik ten Hag’s side, who were dominated by Gary O’Neil’s side at the Theatre of Dreams.
United new boys Andre Onana and Mason Mount were handed their debuts for the club, while Ramus Hojlund watched on from the sidelines as he remains injured.
Erik ten Hag’s business is not finished this summer, and the Dutchman has made it clear that he wants to strengthen his squad in the final fortnight of the window.
One of the Dutchman’s targets is Bayern Munich star Pavard, who United want to replace West Ham-bound Harry Maguire.

United had an opening bid for Pavard turned down by the Bundesliga giants over the weekend.
Bayern made it clear that, following their failure to land Kyle Walker from Manchester City, Pavard is not for sale.
But the Frenchman is keen on a move to Old Trafford and is pushing Bayern to accept his desire to move to United.

And Pavard did little to conceal his intentions by reacting to an Instagram post from Varane following the defender’s winning goal at Old Trafford.
Pavard, who played alongside Varane for France before the United defender’s international retirement, put two ‘fire’ emojis under the defender’s post.
