Leclerc: Beating Hamilton Not a Target Until Ferrari Aims Higher

Charles Leclerc has downplayed the importance of competing with his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton, insisting that their current focus is on improving the team’s standing in Formula 1. With both drivers struggling to contend for podiums this season, Leclerc emphasized that their priority lies in propelling Ferrari toward the front of the grid rather than engaging in intra-team battles for lower points finishes.

    Ferrari’s Performance Struggles

Despite occasional podiums, Ferrari has faced inconsistency throughout the 2025 season. Leclerc secured four podiums in the first twelve races, while Hamilton has yet to enjoy a top-three finish. This lack of competitiveness has prompted both drivers to concentrate on providing feedback to the team, as they strive to return Ferrari to title contention.

    A Shift in Focus

“For now, beating Lewis is not my target,” Leclerc stated. “We’re fighting for fourth, fifth, sixth—it’s just not that interesting.” The Monegasque driver indicated that his main objective is to contribute to Ferrari’s development, aiming for victories rather than battling his teammate over lesser positions.

New Developments for the Belgian Grand Prix

Ferrari arrives at the Belgian Grand Prix with a new rear suspension package, tested during a restricted filming day at Mugello last week. Leclerc noted that initial assessments yielded no significant changes in behaviour, reinforcing his desire to keep details about the new geometry within the team.

“If I need confidence, I’ll go for that. But for now, I prefer to go for performance,” he added, acknowledging the risks of choosing an extreme setup. His comments suggest a cautious but determined approach as Ferrari seeks to maximize its potential on the track.

    The Road Ahead

Both Leclerc and Hamilton are aware that their current performance does not reflect the capabilities of Ferrari. Hamilton expressed concern, stating that the team is “not firing on all cylinders.” This candid acknowledgment highlights the necessity of a cohesive effort to elevate the team’s competitiveness in the remaining races.

    Conclusion

As the Belgian Grand Prix approaches, attention will turn to how Ferrari implements its new suspension and whether it can improve its overall performance. For Leclerc, the path to success lies in teamwork and focusing on the bigger picture, rather than fixating on individual rivalries amidst a season of challenges.
