BBC pays ‘substantial’ damages for Princess Diana’s interview with Martin Bashir
The Metro says the BBC has paid Princess Diana’s private secretary Patrick Jephson a ‘substantial sum’ in damages after her 1995 Panorama interview.
Bosses have apologised ‘unreservedly’ to him over the way Martin Bashir obtained the bombshell exclusive with the mother-of-two.
It comes after an inquiry in May concluded the journalist commissioned fake bank statements and used ‘deceitful behaviour’ in a ‘serious breach’ of the broadcaster’s guidelines.
‘Serious harm’ was caused to Commander Jephson as a result, the BBC admitted today.
