Daily Mirror – BBC apology to Amanda: Strictly: The verdict
The BBC’s apology to actress Amanda Abbington for how she was treated as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing is the Daily Mirror’s splash.
The front page has continued coverage of Philip Schofield who has been accused of ‘lying again.’
Most shocking Giovanni Pernice and Amanda Abbington revelations in bombshell Strictly report
Giovanni Pernice claimed victory in the Strictly Come Dancing bullying claims probe on Sunday night, with the Italian professional dancer revealing that he felt ‘vindicated’ after months of controversy.
On Sunday night, the professional dancer, who worked on the BBC show for almost a decade before quitting, broke his silence after being cleared of allegations made against him on Strictly. The Italian dancer took to social media to say he is glad “it’s over”. Sharing a clip on Instagram, the 34-year-old star admitted the last six or seven months had been tough as he was unable to respond “because I wanted to keep the confidentiality and privacy of the review”.
Giovanni told his followers: “It was difficult because, you know, reading stuff that were untrue, wasn’t the nicest time of my life lets be honest. But today I’m happy because, you know, at the beginning there were very very serious allegations thrown out at me but as in today, none of the serious allegations have been upheld. All the threatening, abusive, harassment behaviour allegations have not been upheld.”
Indulging Schofield as he turns serious safeguarding issue into a gameshow sends wrong message
IN the real world, ordinary people have just one word to describe the message sent out by TV’s attempt to rehabilitate Phillip Schofield: Horrific.
We’ll shortly get to the brass neck of the ex-This Morning presenter blaming everyone but himself for his relations with a producer, who was just 15 when they first met.
But the most damaging message sent out by Schofield’s strategic confessional is that the big names are too powerful to keep down.
Campaigners had barely finished explaining last week why some on the wrong end of, for example, the Mohamed Al Fayed power imbalance, stayed quiet when news of Schofield’s comeback broke.
Today’s news summary – Paper Talk
If you are someone who reads every perspective of a story, here is a news summary of all of today’s front pages from today’s newspapers; summarised in a 2-minute read
Editorial 01 October 2024.
Tuesday’s front pages are dominated by two polar opposite stories: Israel’s ground invasion of Lebanon and the Strictly Come Dancing bullying report.
The Strictly Come Dancing report leads many of the tabloid newspapers after a report was issued – and an apology from the BBC – into bullying allegations on the hit TV show. In 2023 Amanda Abbington put in a formal complaint against her Strictly dance partner Giovanni Pernice.
The report found some of her complaints to be true, but Pernice has been cleared of the most serious allegations. Complaints of verbal bullying and harassment were upheld, but claims of physical aggression were not.
Israel’s ground invasion of Lebanon makes up the rest of the UK front pages this morning, as editors speculate as to whether this is the start of an all-out regional war.
