Gareth Gates continued to prove himself the king of fans’ hearts after his much-deserved victory on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins as he revealed just how much it took out of him.
The singer was the only famous face to pass the gruelling course this year, making it to the final of the military-style series alongside former health secretary Matt Hancock, TV personality Danielle Lloyd, Olympic track and field athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton and Love Island star Teddy Soares.
However, he was the sole competitor the directing staff decided to award a pass to after he pushed himself to his limits for the show.
Now, we know exactly what that looks like after the 39-year-old posted a clip of himself directly after his triumph looking utterly spent.
In fact, as the former Pop Idol star shared, he was actually unable to walk after completing the course, meaning he had to celebrate on his hand and knees.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, he posted a clip of himself crawling along a hotel corridor shortly after being declared the winner of the series.

‘The winner of SAS…,’ he began breathlessly, as he crawled along the corridor carefully.
Smiling and laughing as he was praised with being the ‘one and only’, he added:‘And I can’t walk! What’s going on?’
‘The victory walk… well, crawl !’ he wrote in the caption.
‘This was me moments after completing the @sas_whodareswins course; I literally couldn’t walk! 😩’

However, he was roundly praised for his performance on the show by fans.
‘Oh bless you @gareth_gates you 100% deserved to win that show and you were amazing,’ replied one follower.‘Loved seeing you every week on the TV even if it was a hard watch at times.’
‘Massive congratulations Gareth, was rooting for you from the first episode. Well deserved,’ wrote another.
‘What an outstanding performance you gave. You fully deserved that title, working harder than anyone else,’ commented someone else.
Taking part in a resistance to interrogation challenge, Gareth maintained his story during his grilling, with the onlooking interrogation umpire saying: ‘He buys time well, he’s very considered, he’s genuinely an individual that’s quite difficult to get upset with.’

In a piece to camera, the singer sweetly revealed: ‘Whenever I’m feeling in a dark place, I just always think of my beautiful daughter’s face, smiling at me saying “You can do this daddy”. And I think that’s going to be my main source of inspiration.’
The one final test of endurance, which was designed to replicate combat under fire, he and Hancock and Lloyd had to drag tyres and carry logs and jerry cans in full kit.
For the last part of the task, each recruit had to hang from a bar suspended in the air for as long as they could, with Gareth managing the longest at one minute 20 seconds.

While he was suspended, the runner-up to Will Young on Pop Idol in 2002, could be heard saying in a piece to camera: ‘When I was a 17-year-old boy, I entered a TV talent show. I made the final but didn’t win.
‘It was hard at the time. But 20 years on I wanted to prove to myself that I am strong and I can make it right down to the end and hopefully even win.’
As the directing staff consulted on who they would pass, they said Gates had ‘pretty much passed virtually everything’ on the course and had remained a ‘frontrunner’ and ‘stoic’ from the beginning.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins is available to stream now on Channel 4’s catch-up service.
