Autumn Statement: Hunt does not rule out income tax cuts
Jeremy Hunt has not ruled out cutting income tax in the upcoming Autumn Statement, as he says economic growth was his priority.
The chancellor is finalising the government’s spending plans, which will be released on Wednesday.
He will be looking to revive a stagnant economy and is considering reducing taxes on income, inheritance and businesses.
Hunt told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme his speech would focus on removing barriers to growth.
Hunt said he wanted to put the UK on “the path of lower taxes” but would “only do so in a responsible way” that did not “sacrifice the progress on inflation.”
Chancellor Hunt and PM Rishi Sunak will be hoping that the Autumn Statement will be a major political turning point for their party after a difficult few weeks.
