A railway station has been evacuated after reports of a bomb on a platform.
British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed a ‘suspicious’ item was found on one of the platforms at Birmingham New Street this afternoon.
A statement from the force read: ‘Officers received a report of a suspicious item on a platform at Birmingham New Street at 3pm today.
‘The station has been evacuated as a precaution and a cordon is in place while specialist officers attend to assess the item.’
