Bibby Stockholm: First asylum seekers to board barge According to the BBC, 50 asylum seekers will be moved to the Bibby Stockholm barge in Portland later. Up to 500 men aged 18-65 will be housed on the barge while they wait to find out if their asylum application has been accepted. The floating accommodation block was docked off the Dorset coast nearly three weeks ago – it has been empty due to health and safety worries. But ministers say the vessel is safe and functional.

Poland and Lithuania say they’re bracing for provocations from Moscow and Minsk. The NATO nations are ramping up border security, following the arrival of thousands of Wagner mercenaries in neighbouring Belarus, after an aborted mutiny in Russia in June. Rail disruption as drivers begin new overtime ban More travel disruptions for rail passengers lie ahead this week in the latest strike action by train drivers.  The Aslef train drivers union will not work overtime from Monday 7 August through to Saturday 12 August.  The latest overtime ban is part of a long-running dispute over pay, jobs and conditions that has led to severe disruption. Passengers have been advised to check rail services before they travel.
