Ukraine war: Seven killed in Russian missile strike on eastern town of Pokrovsk Two Russian missiles have hit residential buildings in the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk, killing at least seven people.  The second missile hit the town as rescuers were searching for victims of the first.  With at least 7 killed, dozens have been injured and the death toll could rise. The town of Pokrovsk is around 43 miles northwest of Donetsk city, which is occupied by Russian forces. Niger coup: US envoy holds difficult talks with Nigeria military following last month’s coup Acting US deputy secretary of state Victoria Nuland held face-to-face talks with Niger’s military leaders, in conversations that had been “extremely frank and at times quite difficult.” The conversations come a month after Niger’s military staged a coup. Portugal battles wildfires amid third heatwave of the year Another heatwave sweeping Portugal has left thousands of hectares engulfed in flames after more wildfires broke out. Around 800 firefighters attended a fire near the southern town of Odemira overnight on Monday, with more than 1,400 people having to evacuate. At least nine firefighters have been injured fighting the wildfires. This week, temperatures of 40C are expected to hit much of the Iberian peninsula.
