Commonwealth Games was a mistake for Birmingham, says advisor Max Caller, a former advisor to Birmingham City Council, has said the city hosting the Commonwealth Games was a mistake given the authority’s financial problems.  Caller said the event last summer had been a “challenge too far” for a council struggling. Ukraine war: Deadly new Russian attack reported on Izmail port area A Ukrainian port facility in the Izmail area on the River Danube has been hit by a new Russian drone strike, killing one person, the local governor said.  Port and agricultural infrastructure were damaged in the overnight attack, according to Oleh Kiper, governor of the surrounding Odesa region. Izmail came under Russian drone attacks earlier this week. They have yet to comment on the reported new attack. Aung San Suu Kyi ill but denied urgent care, says son Aung San Suu Kyi is being denied medical care despite her ill health, according to her son, Kim Aris. He said the junta ruling the country – after they ousted the Myanmar leader in a military coup in 2021 – is blocking requests for his mother’s “urgent care.”  Sources told BBC Burmese severe toothaches have left the Aung San Suu Kyi, 78, unable to eat.  However, a junta spokesman said the former leader is in good health and gets check-ups from military and civilian doctors. Ex-Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio jailed for 22 years for Capitol riot Former Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio has been jailed for 22 years for orchestrating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. It’s the longest sentence handed to someone involved in the attack – which saw Trump supporters storm the US Capitol in an attempt to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.  Tarrio, 39 was not in Washington during the riot but helped organise the far-right group’s involvement.
