Two migrants die crossing Channel in small boat Two migrants died after their small boat got into difficulty as they attempted to cross the Channel.  The boat was spotted, with several people in the water, less than a mile from the French coast early on Wednesday afternoon. Some 57 people were rescued by boat and taken to the French town of Boulogne-sur-Mer while another was airlifted to safety, French officials said. British and French teams also responded to a separate small-boat incident on Wednesday evening. Prosecutors in France have since opened an investigation.

Dutch election: Anti-Islam populist Wilders set for big win Geert Wilders has won the Dutch general election, according to the latest forecast.  After 25 years in parliament, Wilders Freedom Party (PVV) is set to win 37 seats, miles ahead of its nearest rival, a left-wing alliance.  The anti-Islam populist leader’s win has shaken Dutch politics, but he will have to persuade other parties to join him in a coalition.
