  South Korean police arrested former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun on Sunday for his alleged role in President Yoon Suk Yeol’s attempt to impose martial law, according to Yonhap News Agency. Kim was considered a key figure in Tuesday’s short-lived martial law decree. He had already resigned as defense minister. Police have launched an investigation into Kim, as well as Yoon and martial law commander Park An-su, for alleged insurrection. Syrian insurgents said early on Sunday they had entered Damascus as residents of the capital reported sounds of gunfire. There was no immediate official statement from the Syrian government. The insurgents also announced they had entered the notorious Saydnaya military prison north of the capital and “liberated our prisoners” there. The night before, opposition forces had taken the central city of Homs, Syria’s third largest, as government forces abandoned it.
